Making art history tangible.

I teach history of art in globalized and socio-cultural contexts; my areas of expertise are: modern and contemporary art, history of photography, socially engaged art practices, critical race studies, postcolonial and decolonial studies, and memory studies.

– Learning happens beyond the seminar room: studio visits with living artists, exhibitions, and attending public programs are core coursework, not extracurricular extras.
– Studio visits function as archival research — students interview artists and review exhibitions, artists in turn respond to student work, and the exchange sometimes grows into publications or collaborative projects.
– Each course maintains a collective notebook — a shared, living document where students annotate, cross-reference, and build knowledge horizontally with one another across the semester.
– Assessment favors presentation and voice over standardized essays — particularly now, when written work increasingly sounds machine-smoothed. I’m developing a writing workshop that treats imperfection, revision, and multilingual thinking as part of finding an authentic academic voice.
